About Me

I was born on Cape Breton Island and came to Winnipeg when I was 16 years old.  My dad toiled in the coal mines of Cape Breton and did not retire until he was 65 years old.  He made a pledge that he would do everything possible to ensure none of his three sons worked a day in the mines.

My dad was the hardest working and toughest man I have ever known.  His working conditions were deplorable, yet he never complained a day in his life.  He felt privileged to have a job and the ability to feed his family - simple as that. I learned a great deal from my father, not the least of which is to work hard for what you have and do so with integrity and honesty and never at the expense of somebody else. He was respected by all who knew him and his word was rock solid. He fulfilled the commitments he made and as far as I know never let a single person down.  My dad was small in stature but to me he was a giant of a man.  So, my father set the bar pretty high for my brothers, sisters and me.

Karen and I met in high school and we have been married for 31 years.  We have two children, Samantha and Justin.   Sam graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Manitoba and is a nurse at Children’s Hospital.  Justin graduated from the University of Winnipeg with his degree in Film and is employed by Canadian Pacific Railway.

Karen and I have been active in our church in many areas, including as youth leaders and in the music program.

Sam and her husband Kevin are expecting their first child, so we are over the top with excitement about becoming first time grandparents.

We have lived in this vibrant part of Winnipeg most of our adult lives and raised our family here. We love being part of this great community we call home and can't imagine living anywhere else.
