My Message

My name is Eric Holland and I am running for Winnipeg City Council in St. Charles in the upcoming civic election.  I believe St. Charles residents clearly want a change of leadership at City Hall.  We are privileged to live in such a great city and I feel I can be part of that change which will see us grow and prosper.  Over the last couple of years I have watched what I view as relentless mismanagement by City Council and the impact it is having on our city.  I have grown weary from witnessing the damaging actions and inactions of council members and senior officials.  Tens of millions of dollars have been spent and wasted with little or no oversight by those we have sent to represent us at City Hall.

City Council members seemed more focused on trivial matters such as considering making it an offence for passengers to sing on a Winnipeg Transit bus, than they were on proper oversight and adherence to policies regarding major building construction, expropriation of land and real estate transactions.  On July 22, 2014 The Winnipeg Free Press reported "Deals that have been made by City Council and the civic administration over the past three years have been criticized as unethical, immoral and even illegal. Citizens are wrestling with what to do to correct things at City Hall".  Well, when words such as unethical, immoral and illegal are used when describing what many feel is happening at City Hall, citizens need not wrestle with what to do to correct things.  I feel the time has come to elect a fresh City Council and bring mismanagement of funds, the sense of entitlement by city council members and the secrecy surrounding decisions made by the Executive Policy Committee (EPC) to an end.

Our image on the national stage has been damaged, but more importantly, the citizens of Winnipeg have seen their tax dollars often spent foolishly and are left feeling helpless on how to change things.

I have been employed by the Province of Manitoba for 28 years. I am Standards Officer for Manitoba's Procurement Branch and I establish standards and specifications for the goods and services we purchase.  I ensure commitments made by suppliers and contractors are fulfilled, with no shortcuts, product or service substitutes or compromises on safety.  If elected to City Council, I will take that same attitude with me.  I will ensure policy is adhered to and that every i is dotted and every t is crossed.  I will do everything possible to ensure tax dollars are spent wisely and efficiently.

I have spent my life trying to be the best husband, dad and citizen I could be.  If I am privileged enough to be elected by the residents of St. Charles on October 22, I will represent you at city hall to the very best of my ability and fulfill my duties and responsibilities with integrity, transparency and just plain old honesty.

I will be visiting as many homes as possible prior to the election, but if I miss you and you have an issue you would like to discuss with me, please send me an email and I will reply to it, or if you prefer I can stop by your home.

If you will allow me to place a lawn sign on your property, I thank you for that privilege.  My signs are small, 16" x 24" and I will remove it within two days of the election.  Please email me in the Contact section giving permission and I will stop by to place the sign and say thanks in person.

Thank you for considering me as your representative on Winnipeg City Council.
